Briefly describe your professional career until today:

  • What is your current position?

  • How long have you been working in the green tech sectors?

  • What motivated you to enter this sector?

I currently hold the position of Associate Professor at the University of Seville, where I lecture in the field of Bioelectronics and lead projects that merge technical efficiency with health.

My 25-year career has been established in the biomedical engineering sector. Some time ago, I decided to channel all that technical expertise into the field of green technology, where I have been working for the last five years.

My primary motivation for making this change was the conviction that human health is inseparable from the health of the planet; after decades of designing solutions for the human body, I felt a vital responsibility to apply those same principles of precision engineering to protect and restore our natural environment, creating Environmental Health projects.

Describe your perceived main obstacles and challenges in your professional career.

    • Which were your main personal or professional challenges?

    • How did those affect your professional development?

Throughout my 25-year career, my primary challenges have stemmed from the constant need to balance academic rigour with the agility required for technology transfer to the productive sector.

Professionally, adapting long-term research processes to meet immediate market demands was a complex cultural barrier to overcome; on a personal dimmension, the challenge lay in maintaining pedagogical relevance amidst the generational shift of students.

These challenges not only strengthened my resilience but were the true drivers of my growth: they compelled me to step out of the laboratory and the classroom to become a driver of change, developing a holistic vision that now enables me to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world solutions that make a tangible impact on society.

      •

During this period, I sought not to limit myself to being an academic; instead, I actively trained in project management and intellectual property—skills that have enabled me to ‘translate’ scientific language into viable objectives.

The key was moving from a one-way communication model to one of active listening and co-creation, establishing direct bridges between the classroom, the laboratory, and industry.

In this process, my professional network was a fundamental pillar; participating in international consortia and transfer networks provided me with a global perspective.

Furthermore, I benefited from the guidance of a key mentor in my early career—a pioneer in technology transfer—who taught me that knowledge only generates real value when it is shared and applied. This combination of continuous training, strategic mentoring, and a solid support network transformed initial barriers into a competitive advantage, enabling me to lead knowledge transfer with both authority and empathy.

        • Were you awarded any recognition or award?

        • How does your work contribute to sustainability or innovation in green tech sectors?

        •

The projects that have been most rewarding for me are those where we have been able to directly apply the results to actual patients, achieving a tangible improvement in their quality of life.

Furthermore, these projects have allowed me to develop additional management and knowledge transfer skills that I have been able to bring into the classroom. As a result of these efforts, I served for 10 years as a member of the founding board of a university spin-off (EBT) which received significant awards, including the Award for Best Business Initiative from the University of Seville.

My contribution to green technology is reflected in the application of a circular life cycle approach to every innovation I develop; I not only design efficient solutions but also optimise the transfer of biotechnological processes to reduce the industrial carbon footprint, transforming waste into high-value resources.

My work acts as a catalyst for sustainability by integrating the precision of biomedical engineering with environmental regeneration; this enables me to lead the creation of systems that are both economically viable and ecologically responsible. Ultimately, my work seeks to innovate not only in ‘what’ we do, but in ‘how’ we do it, ensuring that every technological advancement is a firm step towards net zero and ecosystem resilience.
